Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Monday, Nov. 30: The Chickasaw County sheriff’s office requested an officer check a residence in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Road for male for whom there was an outstanding warrant for violating the Sex Offender Registry. The officer found the subject had gone to Texas. At 10:33 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 500 block of W. Clark St for a report of a domestic abuse assault that initially occurred in the county near Dana and continued at a residence in the 300 block of S. Cedar Street.

Friday, Nov. 27: At 6:38 pm a resident reported a utility pole in the 100 Block of West McKinley Street that appeared to have been damaged from the ice. Alliant Energy was advised.
Thursday, Nov. 26: At 5:41 am a complainant reported a possible bush on fire in the 500 Block of S. Wilson. The officer investigated and determined it was Christmas lights on the bush.
Wednesday, Nov. 25: At 12:05 am a complainant reported a burglary at Camden Apartments. A small amount of change was reported missing from the apartment. At 8:03 am a complainant reported a burglary to a vehicle in the 400 block of S. Vine St. A small amount of change and other items had been removed from the vehicle. At 11:14 am a complainant requested officers for a domestic situation occurring at a residence in the 100 block of E. Central Ave. Jody Lyn Schad, 40, of Jefferson was arrest for public intoxication*. At 2:47 pm a complainant reported checks missing from a residence in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St. She advised her bank had called and informed her several checks had been used at Jefferson businesses without her authorization. The officer is investigating.
Tuesday, Nov. 24: At 1:30 am a traffic stop in the 500 block of N. Elm St resulted in the arrest of Trevor Winters, 32, of Jefferson for operating while under the influence – first offense*. He was also cited for improper registration plate lamp. At 9 am an officer assisted a probation officer in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St. At 3:46 pm officers were requested to watch for a vehicle that had been involved in a burglary north of Jefferson. At 8:19 pm officers located a vehicle parked in the 300 block of W. Lincoln Way, the driver of which officers knew had an outstanding warrant for probation violation. Officers made contact with the subject at one of the apartments at that address. The subject was allowed to go to his vehicle to obtain some personal items. At that time, the subject jumped into his vehicle and sped off in an attempt to flee from the officers. Two JPD officers and a Greene County sheriff’s deputy gave chase to the subject. The vehicle fled north on Oak St to Lincoln Way where he ran a stop sign and went eastbound. At Lincoln Way and Elm St the suspect ran another stop sign and went southbound on Elm Street where he turned into the circle drive at the middle school and ran through the closed gates to the middle school parking lot. Once the subject reached the east side of the parking lot at the middle school he exited his vehicle and fled towards the east entrance doors to the middle school. The sheriff’s deputy was able to catch up with the subject and with other officer’s arriving at the same time, the subject was taken into custody. The suspect complained of possible injuries and was taken by Greene County Emergency Medical Services to the Greene County Medical Center where he was evaluated and released. The sheriff’s deputy received minor injuries to a hand during the scuffle. Michael Lynn Heard, Sr, 54, of Jefferson was transported to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center where he was booked and later transported to the Boone County jail where he remains held on the probation revocation warrant. Charges are pending at this time for the events that occurred during the arrest. At 9:10 pm a male and female were found in the fenced in area behind the city maintenance building while a vehicle was being placed in the city impound lot. The subjects left as a towing service arrived in the area. An officer contacted the couple at a residence in the 400 block of N. Chestnut St and they were warned regarding trespassing. At 11:16 pm officers and Greene County EMS assisted two Boone County deputies with evaluating a prisoner complaining of a medical issue in the 300 block of N. Elm Street. ***Pursuant to a complaint of a school bus violation in the 1500 block of Westwood Drive on Nov. 19, Rhonda Kay Morlan has been cited for unlawful passing of a school bus.
Monday, Nov. 23: At 5:34 pm officers assisted a probation officer in the 300 block of N. Oak St. ***After completion of an investigation initiated on Oct. 25 when a motor vehicle was reported stolen from the 300 block of E. Monroe St, an officer has applied for an arrest warrant charging Andrew Lee Jensen, 33, of Jefferson with theft – second degree (Class D felony)*. Evidence linked the suspect to the vehicle after it had been recovered in the 1400 block of 222nd St on Oct. 27.
Sunday, Nov. 22: At 12:18 am an officer assisted the sheriff’s office with cattle out in the 1300 block of Highway 30 west of Jefferson. At 3:55 pm a complainant reported a wallet either lost or stolen at Dollar General or the laundromat. ***Officers issued 12 citations to 11 individuals for violation of the snow emergency parking ordinance on Nov. 20-21.
Saturday, Nov. 21: At 1:42 am a complainant reported an erratic driver which had nearly struck several vehicles head on that was westbound on Highway 30 from Orchard Ave. The officer stopped the vehicle in the 400 block of E. Central Ave. Walter Reyes, 27, of Perry was arrested and charged with driving while revoked – serious misdemeanor*. At 12:37 pm a complainant reported trespassing with a snowmobile in the 900 block of W. Harrison St. At 1:15 pm a complainant reported possible identity theft at a residence in the 800 block of W. Lincoln Way.
Friday, Nov. 20: At 10:50 am staff at Kum and Go reported possible shoplifting at 303 N. Elm Street.
Thursday, Nov. 19: At 8:35 am staff of the Greene County Community School District reported a school bus violation that occurred in the 1500 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer is following up on the allegation. At 3:45 pm an officer investigated a personal injury collision at N. West and W. State St. Jennie Halterman of Ankeny was eastbound on State St. Phyllis Bunkers was southbound on West St. Their vehicles collided within the intersection, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage to Halterman’s 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck and an estimated $3,800.00 in damage to Bunkers’ 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. Bunkers was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by private vehicle for evaluation. Charges are pending at this time.
Wednesday, Nov. 18: At 12:26 am a complainant reported finding a bag of dog feces left on her front porch in the 500 block of W. Head St. At 3:10 pm a complainant reported two motorcycles missing from her garage in the 200 block of E. McKinley St. The officer is investigating. At 3:15 pm a complainant reported a purse missing from her vehicle in the 400 block of E. Lincoln Way.
Tuesday, Nov. 17: At 1:29 pm an anonymous female reported a male and female subject to a protective order riding together and going to a hearing at the Greene County courthouse. At 2:20 pm an officer observed the two getting into a vehicle and leaving in the 100 block of N. Chestnut Street. Omar Estrada, 29, of Ames was arrested and charged with contempt of court – violation of a protective order*. Azyde Alejandra Sosa, 26, of Joshua, TX, was arrested and charged with contempt of court – violation of a protective order – aiding and abetting*. Both were transported to the Greene County jail. ***An officer has completed an investigation of a personal injury accident on Nov. 16, at 4:25 pm at 250th and Elm St on the south edge of Jefferson. Clay Michael Cunningham, 16, of Jefferson was southbound on Elm St driving a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. Cunningham attempted to turn eastbound onto 250th St but lost control of the vehicle and entered the ditch in the southeast corner of the intersection. There was a 16-year-old female and three other juveniles in the vehicle. All were transported by Greene County Emergency Medical Services to the Greene County Medical Center for evaluation of possible injuries. The officer was initially told the 16-year-old female had been operating the vehicle. It was later revealed that Cunningham had been the driver. As a result, Cunningham has been cited with no valid driver’s license and failure to maintain control. Cunningham was additionally charged with providing false information to a law enforcement entity* and was referred to Juvenile Court Services on that charge. Mariah Kait Bartley, 16, of Jefferson was cited for permitting an unauthorized person to drive. Damage to the vehicle were estimated at $10,000. ***Pursuant to an investigation initiated on Nov. 3 at 9:47 pm of a house fire at 304 E. Garfield Street, an officer has applied for an arrest warrant charging Juan Angel Guzman, 28, of Jefferson with false report of indictable offense to public entity (serious misdemeanor)*. During the course of the investigation, it is alleged that Guzman provided false information regarding the origin of the fire. ***Pursuant to an investigation initiated on Oct. 24 after the report of the theft of a motor vehicle from 107 N. Grimmell Road, an officer has applied for a warrant charging Lyric Marie Stier, 19, of Marshalltown, with operation of a vehicle without the owner’s consent (aggravated misdemeanor)*. Stier is alleged to have taken a vehicle without permission after being allowed to stay at the residence on the night of Oct. 23. The vehicle was recovered in the 3800 block of Merle Hay Road in Des Moines on Oct. 28.
Monday, Nov. 16: At 11:20 am Carroll County requested an officer attempt to locate a male subject to an involuntary committal. At 4:25 pm an officer investigated a personal injury accident at 250th St and Highway 4 south of Jefferson. A red 2010 Chevrolet Equinox was found to have lost control and gone into the ditch. The occupants of the vehicle were transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS for evaluation. Damage to the vehicle was $10,000. The incident remains under investigation at this time. Charges are pending. No names were released by the JPD. At 7:12 pm an officer took a complaint of harassment by a resident in the 900 block of W. Washington St.
Sunday, Nov. 15: At 2 pm an officer investigated a backing collision at 1401 Woodland Drive. Randy Graven backed a 1986 Chevrolet pickup from a parking stall and struck some mailboxes causing $800 in damage to the truck and minor damage to the mailboxes.
Saturday, Nov. 14: At 2:50 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle at 306 W. Reed St. At 9:10 pm a complainant reported a mailbox had been struck in the 500 block of S. Grimmell Road. Officers arrived on scene and found a trail of antifreeze which led them to a residence in the 700 block of S. Elm St. Katie Halligan, 21, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the Influence – first offense and possession of marijuana – first offense*. She was cited for failure to maintain control*. Damage to a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass was estimated at $3,000. A mailbox owned by Brent Stoner sustained an estimated $300 in damage and a fence and tree owned by Alan Jacobs sustained $500 in damage.
Friday, Nov. 13: At 8:58 am an officer investigated a backing collision in the off street parking area at the Camden Apartments. Nicole Sandven was operating a 2001 Toyota Avalon. Isabel Renya was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee. Both vehicles backed from parking stalls adjacent to each other at the same time causing the vehicles to collide. The officer estimated $1,000 in damage to the Sandven vehicle and $600 in damage to Renya’s Cherokee. No citations were issued as most traffic offenses do not apply outside the roadway right of way. At 12:07 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision at Elm St and E. Lincoln Way. Emily Taggart was southbound on Elm St driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee. Christopher Boude was also southbound, following Taggart in a 1986 Ford Ranger. Boude struck the rear of Taggart’s vehicle causing approximately $500 in damage to the Jeep. Boude’s vehicle sustained $1,800 in damage. Boude was cited for failure to stop in a safe assured clear distance ahead.
Thursday, Nov. 12: At 6:33 am Janice Napolitano reported a two vehicle collision which occurred in a private driveway at 1201 W. Lincoln Way. At 9:41 am an officer assisted with a medical call at Daubendiek Park. A female had been walking a dog and it had attacked her. The female was taken by ambulance to the Greene County Medical Center. The dog was euthanized and taken to the Iowa State Diagnostics Laboratory for rabies testing. *** Pursuant to a complaint on Nov. 1 at 2:05 am in the 300 block of W. McKinley St of a female swerving at another female who was on a bicycle, an officer has cited Amelia Kennedy of Jefferson with reckless driving*.
Wednesday, Nov. 11: At 9:48 am a complainant reported the theft of a white 20” Next Bike from a residence in the 500 block of W. Madison St. At 1:11 pm a concerned caller reported a male threatening to harm himself and she believed he was in the Jefferson area. Officers were able to determine the male was in Cherokee and information was forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agency. At 2:06 pm an officer investigated a personal injury two vehicle collision at N. Olive St and E. Lincoln Way. Nancy Winger was northbound on Olive St driving a 2010 Chrysler 300 and had stopped at the posted stop sign. Charlotte Blasnitz was westbound on Lincoln Way in a 2010 Jeep Compass. Winger didn’t see Blasnitz coming and pulled away from the stop sign. The two vehicles collided within the intersection, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage to each vehicle. Blasnitz and her passenger were transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for evaluation. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Winger was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. At 8:20 pm a complainant reported sparking power lines in the 1400 block of N. Elm St. At 9:02 pm a complainant reported a whiskey bottle had been thrown through a window at a residence in the 600 block of W. Adams St. At 9:04 pm a complainant reported a tree limb down blocking the roadway at S. Wilson and Park St. At 9:19 pm an officer found a broken power pole at N. Wilson and Mahlon St. Alliant Energy was notified. At 10:04 pm an officer located a tree limb which had fallen on a car and partially blocked the roadway in the 200 block of E. Madison St. A 2006 Ford Focus owned by Kirk Kiger sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage. At 10:43 pm Union Pacific railroad staff reported several railroad crossings without power in Jefferson.

Monday, Nov. 9: At 9:43 pm the Perry police department requested an officer’s assistance in locating a local resident who had been involved in a collision in Perry earlier in the day.
Sunday, Nov. 8: At 2:11 am security staff at Wild Rose Casino requested an officer for a male smoking what was believed to be marijuana in a bathroom. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Dustin Michael McGuire, 30, of Manson for possession of marijuana- first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication – second offense.* McGuire was booked into the Greene County jail. At 2:16 am a complainant reported an assault that took place at Wild Rose Casino. An investigation into the matter was initiated. At 12:34 pm an officer was advised of garbage dumped in the ditch at Linwood and Westwood Drive. The owner of the trash was identified and a citation for littering is pending. At 3:48 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino requested an officer for a female on the self-exclusion list who was in the casino. Arlene Anderson, 82, of Carroll was cited for trespass (simple misdemeanor)*.
Saturday, Nov. 7: Saturday, Nov 7: At 6:52 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle and fence in the 600 block of W. State St. At 3:06 pm a resident of Colorado Springs, CO, reported that an application on a stolen iPad pinged from a residence in the 600 block of W. Adams St. Officers went to the residence and recovered an iPad and an iPod. James Blackmon, 40, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 8:43 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino reported trespass by a former employee. Charges are pending completion of the investigation.
Friday, Nov. 6: At 5:13 am a complainant reported being harassed by a male at a residence in the 300 block of N. Wilson. At 7:49 am a Jefferson park and recreation department employee reported an abandoned vehicle in the Jefferson municipal cemetery. At 10:57 am staff at Kum and Go reported harassing phone calls. At 2:49 pm staff at Clark Heating and Cooling reported the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle at that business. At 3:32 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the 600 block of S. Olive St. Violet Vaughn had been parked facing south on Olive Street behind a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix owned by Amelia Carman. Vaughn pulled away from the curb and proceeded southbound at which time the right front corner and right side of her car struck Carman’s vehicle. Damage to Carman’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Vaughn’s vehicle was estimated at $1,000. At 8:23 pm a caller reported a large fire in a yard in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer found the fire to be supervised and lumber being burned. The home owner was advised it is in violation of city ordinance to burn anything other than yard waste.
Thursday, Nov. 5: At 8:50 pm a complainant reported harassment from an unknown phone number in the 300 block of W. Lincoln Way.
Wednesday, Nov. 4: At 8:15 am a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 400 block of S. Pinet St. A garage had been entered and a bicycle stolen. At 5:52 pm a complainant reported harassment by a male at a residence in the 100 block of E. Clark St.
Tuesday, Nov. 3: At 1:43 pm a complainant reported a window had been broken out of a vehicle while parked in the 600 block of W. Adams St. At 9:45 pm an officer assisted the Jefferson fire department with a house fire at 304 E. Garfield St.
Monday, Nov. 2: At 6:02 am staff at Oly’s Corner reported the theft of an air hose. At 8:08 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a window of a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck Sept. 29 while it was in the parking lot at the Cobblestone Hotel. At 2:12 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the 1800 block of N. Elm St. Rochelle Thornton was northbound on Elm St in the inside lane and slowed to turn westbound onto American Ave. Thomas Shearman was northbound behind Thornton. His vehicle struck the rear of Thornton’s 2015 Ford Escape causing an estimated $3,000 damage to it. Shearman’s 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage. Shearman was cited for failure to maintain control. At 8:59 pm an officer was requested to assist the sheriff’s office with an unruly prisoner being transported to the LEC.
Sunday, Nov. 1: At 1:03 am while on patrol an officer found a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 4 just south of the Wild Rose Casino entrance. No driver was found with the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene. The officer was later able to speak to the driver who said he had taken evasive action to avoid another vehicle in his lane. A 2000 Honda Accord owned by Joshua Kennedy was not damaged in the incident. At 2:05 am a complainant reported a female in a blue Chrysler Pacifica had swerved at her while she was riding her bike in the 300 block of W. McKinley St, causing her to fall down. An investigation into the matter was initiated. At 2:30 pm Wilmer Aguilar-Flores reported a hit and run collision in the 400 block of W. Harrison St. Aguilar-Flores had parked a 2008 Ford Taurus on the south side of the street on Friday evening and had found the damage earlier in the day, prior to reporting it. There was white paint transfer on the vehicle and the Taurus sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage.
